A couple of Marvel panels at Comic-Con provided interesting news tidbits regarding Avengers vs. X-Men tie-ins, Ultimate Iron Man, and their upcoming Marvel NOW! event in October (which is not a reboot, remember.)
During the Marvel Ultimate Comics panel, it was announced that Nathan Edmondson will tackle a third Ultimate Iron Man mini-series this October. Edmondson, co-creator of Who is Jake Ellis? and writer of Dancer, said that the new series is “a unique opportunity to do a character piece wrapped in some really fun action, a little bit of espionage.” It will be illustrated by artist Matteo Buffagni and will introduce the Ultimate version of Iron Man’s archenemy, the Mandarin.
At the “Cup O’ Joe” panel, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada announced a “Point One” short story collection that will kick off the Marvel NOW! event. According to Marvel’s website, the Marvel NOW! Point One anthology will act as a guide for the changes in the Marvel Universe to come. Marvel Senior VP-Executive Editor Tom Brevoort explained that the collection “…will have multiple stories unified within a larger framing story, all of which will give portents and clues about stuff that’s coming down the pike in Marvel NOW! and even after.”
For now, Nick Fury, Jr. is the only confirmed character involved in Marvel NOW! Point One.
During his panel, Quesada also announced three new Avengers vs. X-Men tie-ins as a part of Marvel NOW!: AvX: Consequences, A+X, and A-Babies vs. X-Babies. Here’s a quick rundown for each:
