Comics Crux

     

Nowadays the name “Marvel” is synonymous with Iron Man, the Hulk, Spidey, etc. We all have our favorite popular characters from their comic books and movie adaptations. But what about those weird obscure characters that you casually reference in conversation to blank stares from everyone else? Marvel is giving those characters a chance to shine with an official team and an animated series of their own: the “All-Winners Squad.”

The four-minute pilot episode introduces Hypno-Hustler, Howard the Duck, Unicorn, Ruby Thursday, Walrus, Frog-Man, and Squirrel Girl. The kind of humor and timing reminded me of something that should be on Adult Swim, but less crude and offensive. The “All-Winners Squad” sounds like a cute idea that will appeal to fans of these lesser-known characters.
