Welcome to the first installment of Horror Crux. This is a Bi-monthly column where I will give you the latest scoops on what’s new in horror comics, movies, games, and collectables.
The most relevant news to horror comics right now has to be The Walking Dead #100. This first printing from an independent company (Image) has outsold all other comics thus far in 15 years, since 1997, selling over 383,000 copies. That is huge news. A second printing will hit the stores August 15th the same day as The Walking Dead #101. Other thrilling news in the world of comics is a debut comic from Dark Horse, To Hell You Ride, written by Lance Henriksen and Joseph Maddrey with art by Tom Mandrake. Lance Henriksen is an acclaimed actor appearing in movie greats like Near Dark and Aliens, and the television show Millennium. Joseph Maddrey is known for Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of the American Horror Film. To Hell You Ride #1 hits the shelves on December 12, 2012!

Moving from comics to movies it’s only fitting that I get to share some awesome news with you. One of my favorite horror comics when I was growing up was Creepy, published by Warren Publishing from 1964- 1983. In 2007 Dan Braun and Josh Braun partnered with Rick Brookwell and Craig Haffner acquired the rights to both Creepy and Eerie under the holding entity New Comic Company. They recently teamed up with Chris Columbus and 1492’s Michael Barnathan with Submarine partners and Sara Feldmann Sheehan to create a 4 part anthology film like Trilogy of Terror or Tales from the Crypt. Columbus will write and produce one of the shorts.
Columbus said in a statement; “I am thrilled to be immersed once again in the world of Creepy and Eerie. They featured some of the most important comic book artists of the time (Frank Frazetta, Steve Ditko, and more) and were incredibly influential in my desire to become a filmmaker. It is really exciting to have the opportunity to bring these unique tales to the screen and share them with today’s audiences.” I am not certain when Creepy will hit the theaters but will keep you updated when I find out.

In video game happenings, there are two games coming out that I can’t wait to play. The first is Resident Evil 6 from Capcom which becomes available on October 2nd. It offers better controls with increased mobility and independent loot for each player so item drops are no longer shared and both players can pick up ammo, etc. Also you can switch weapons and grenades with the D pad. The part I am most excited about though is the ability to play 3 full individual campaigns as Leon, Chris, or Jake. You can play 2 player co-op or 4 player co-op on line. Resident Evil 6 is available on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, or PC.
Metro: Last Light coming out some time in 2013 from 4A Games. It is also a Survival Horror but is a first person shooter and is set in a post-apocalyptic Eastern Europe. You play as Artyom just as you did in Metro 2033 and you’re still forced to wear a mask and replace the air filters but this time your watch remains visible so you can watch your quickly draining air supply. You have a head mounted light that has to be manually cranked on a regular basis and you must wipe your face mask clean of debris and blood when you can no longer see. I loved Metro 2033 and can’t wait to play Metro: Last Light. It will be available on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Now it’s time to tell you about different action figures, toys, clothes, and collectables that I found. The first item is a Cthulhu Knitted Ski Mask. It is $24.99 and you can pre-order it here and have it shipped to you in September 2012.
The second item is also Cthulhu based but more adorable,Chibithulhu, is not only a cute little plush (actually comes in 3 sizes, 4inches, 10 inches, and 20 inches), but it can also help you in the Munchkin Cthulhu game. It comes with it’s own card and set of rules to help you reign supreme.
Well that’s all for now, I hope you check in again when I bring you more cool Horror stuff on Horror Crux.
I write this column for Comics Crux. This is my debut.
