One of my fondest comic book buying memories is finding the entire run of The Invisibles in a used book store. Walking into that store and seeing these books before my very eyes still brings a smile to my face. When I heard that now the entire run was being collected in a 1536 page omnibus, I could only imagine how DC Comics/Vertigo was going to pull this off. Now this monumental collection has arrived, welcome to ten pounds of unfiltered Grant Morrison glory.
For 150 bucks, surprisingly not a horrible deal for the most part. You get a lot of comic for your money, though the trades are still fairly easy to find overall. The best part about this being one giant collection is you really get the full Invisibles experience in one sitting. The Invisibles is one of my personal favorites of Grant Morrison projects, this is him cutting loose and showing you the world through his eyes. Surrealistic, smart, and clever storytelling lie within this monumental tome.
I remember in my own first reading of this series feeling my brain rewiring itself throughout the tale. There are so many twists, turns and surprises in store in this story that you just have to experience it for yourself. It’s truly a story that is worthy of a weapons grade omnibus of awesome. I can only imagine what this wallet breaking experience will be for those of you buying The Invisibles for the first time. Say you want a revolution? Go forth and buy the powerful brick known as The Invisibles Omnibus.
