A new trailer for Injustice: Gods Among Us was released at Comic-Con today, featuring some pretty heavy violence and thrilling action between DC heroes and villains. Thankfully, this trailer lets the fastpaced gameplay shine. The first preview from E3 last month was composed of many cinematics and a few teasing hints of gameplay. But in the newest footage, we are treated to special character moves and brawls in recognizable DC Universe settings (Metropolis! The Batcave!) Nightwing and Cyborg also make their debut as playable characters alongside Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman, Harley Quinn, and Solomon Grundy.
This fighting game is the second from the DC Universe to be developed by NetherRealm Studios, the previous being Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon stated in a Gamespot interview that the stages in the game feature destructible environments and interactive objects the player can use to inflict damage on an opponent (witness Superman’s brutal headbashing at the hands of The Flash around 0:45 seconds in.) Characters’ fighting styles are either fueled by power or gadgets. Power characters like Superman use heavy objects from the environment to attack. Gadget characters like Batman are more agile than power characters and use these objects to dodge attacks.
I was raised on Mortal Kombat in terms of fighting games, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see a fighting game composed entirely of DC characters when Injustice is released next year.
