We hear a lot about Zombies, Vampires, and Werewolves, but what about those who put them down – the Monster Hunters.
Over the years our comics have given us several outstanding and courageous heroes to choose from. So we’re going to give you some of our favorites and we want you to tell us yours!
This is the single most awesome thing you will see all week. I will spoil nothing by saying this trailer features everyone.
Savage Wolverine #6 begins not just a new arc for the comic written by Zeb Wells, but also Joe Madureira doing another run at comic. There are also lots of ninjas. Originally meant to be in Avenging Spider-Man, the arc involves Elektra on a mission for Wilson Fisk (aka The Kingpin) after she discovers Bullseye’s body is missing, and he has information she needs. She turns to the only person she knows will help her no questions asked; Wolverine. Did I forget to mention there are ninjas? Oh so many ninjas.
Remember the time not so long ago when a movie came out about a certain character who’s the best at what he does and what he does isn’t very nice and many fans (such as myself) hated it and tried to forget that the film even existed? Well, while fans are (cautiously) looking forward to The Wolverine’s debut this July, Marvel Knights Animation is bringing us a film about the Ol’ Canucklehead’s origins that we might actually enjoy!
Marvel’s big digital push continues with a few exciting announcements at SXSW this weekend. The first – and let no one accuse me of burying the lede – is this: Marvel is having an enormous digital sale right now, with 700 #1 issues from an enormous chunk of the company’s library being presented for free online. Anyone with the Marvel or Comixology apps – or just a plain Comixology account – should head on over there as soon as possible, because this deal ends Tuesday night.
Writer Paul Cornell will take on one of Marvel’s most popular characters next month in a new ongoing series, simply titled Wolverine. Cornell spoke with Marvel about Wolverine, about the character’s abilities and the ominous title of his first story arc, “Hunting Season.”
In the terms of breaking your wallet with awesome, the upcoming Wolverine: The Adamantium Collection fits the bill. A 16 Pound, 720 Page, one foot tall beast that marks the debut of a new format that Marvel has coined as “Adamantium Sized”. It will be one collection that won’t fit easily onto your bookshelf.
This year comic book fans will be saturated with a bunch of superhero films, and one that many are anticipating with much delight and a little nervousness - as it can’t possibly be as bad as that previous film which shall remain nameless - The Wolverine. Opening July 26th, the film is directed by James Mangold, who has helmed films such as 3:10 to Yuma and Knight and Day. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mangold discussed the film at great length and gave fans even more details about the film, which will definitely put any nervousness to rest.
Warren Ellis is one of the writers that caught my attention as I was getting hooked into comics again, once that happened, there was no turning back. His work is some of the finest in the industry, but every writer had to begin somewhere right? Ellis spent his fair share of time in the X-Men universe as he was working his way through the Marvel trenches, but today we’re focusing on Not Dead Yet, featuring Wolverine and drawn by Leinil Yu (who was just starting out at Marvel himself at the time).
Citing “a disrespect of agreement”, co-artist on Marvel’s new Wolverine MAX series, Connor Willumsen, has removed himself from the book and will focus on other works. About a week ago, when issue #1 of the series was released, Willumsen took to his blog and mentioned that he was no longer working on the title and that he was “unsuccessful” in his request to remove his name from the book and future issues with his name on it will not contain any of his work.
A new addition to Marvel NOW! has been revealed, Savage Wolverine #1 written and drawn by Frank Cho. The story takes place in (where else) the Savage Land, specifically the part of the Savage Land forbidden for anyone to enter, as an ancient evil god is resting there. Cho promises a good mix of humor and action within the story as Wolverine is teaming up with Shanna the She-Devil on this adventure. Savage Wolverine begins in January 2013.
